Animate Minions vs. Mantra of Recall
Now, you may be thinking "Wtf???" after reading the title of this thread, but i was seriously thinking about trying this.
now, when i was workin around in the arenas to make a good necro, i got to the issue of energy management. many skills came to mind, mostly from the mesmer line, namely Mantra of Recall and Offering of Blood, but seeing as how i was a Curses N/Mo, there seemed to be no skills that i could use.
now, Mantra of Recall has this description
Quote:
For 20 seconds, you gain no benefit from Mantra of Recall. You gain 13-25 Energy when Mantra of Recall ends.
|
, costs 10 energy and has a recharge of 20 seconds, naturally.
you many still be thinking "Wtf??", but im getting to my point.
my attributes were set up at 11+2+1 curses, 10+2 soul reaping, and 10 healing (mabye ill reveal my pretty good build later ). then, soul reaping caught my eye. sure, 11 energy each time a creature dies is good, but what if i need energy and 11 energy is enough? then, i thought of minions.
animate bone minions -
Quote:
Exploit target corpse to animate two level 0-10 Bone Minions.
|
, but it costs a whopping 25 energy , but only 5 recharge.
now its time to factor in Soul Reaping.
for Mantra of Recall, its an elite, only costs 10 energy, and gives you back ~20 energy at 10 inspiration i think, for a net gain of 10 energy.
for Animate Bone Minions, lets say something dies around you, so you gain 11 energy and then cast Animate Bone Minions. now, 25 for ABM and subtract 12 from the SR energy you just got comes to a total of 13 energy to cast.
now, at 0 death magic, those lv 0 minions arent going to last long, probably less than 20 seconds, so when they die, you get 12x2 energy from Soul Reaping, for 24 energy. now, that 24 energy - 13 to cast comes out to 11 energy, a whopping 1 above mantra of recall without haveing to be an elite.
now, i know that Animate Bone Minions is more situational than Mantra of Recall, but it isnt an elite, give you 1 more energy (alot eh ^^), doesn't require you to put any points into death, leaves you free to use a differnt stance, and gives you the benefit faster and recharges faster.
this was just a stray thought i put down on paper just now, but i think it might work so please post any thoughts or comments if you have any

The mistake you're making is subtracting the soul reaping bonus from the cost of animate bone minions. Remember that you'd get it whether you animated something or not, so that's not a fair comparison.

I agree with Symbola nd if you didnt notice, you just traded in your 12 energy gain from soul reaping, used a skill, waited awhile and got 11 energy. You just lost 1 energy. With mantra of recall, gain 12, spend 10, gain 20 = 22 net.
So i suggest one of us better recheck our math.

What Antwan said. Two level 0 bone minions won't boost your energy (spending 25 energy to get 2x12 a few seconds later = net loss).
You can't factor in the 12 you gain from soul reaping when something first dies, because you'd gain that no matter what skills you use.
Mantra of Recall: 12 - 10 + 20 = 22
Bone minions: 12 - 25 + 24 = 11

yea, but i was thinkin since im a N/Mo i couldnt use mantra of recall anyway, but bone minions could be similar
but i see how my math could be a little faulty ><
